On reflection, I think this is probably the first proper song I ever wrote.
Inspired by my girlfriend at the time Louise.
Who delivered a knock out punch when she announced that she was leaving me because I was “more pain than pleasure”.
That kind of pure honesty is rare indeed!
And at the time, I think the only way I could pick myself up off the floor was to write a song about it.
The first draft (written on the back of a bus ticket) included her name in the chorus,
“Your the name I treasure....Louise” but as it developed, I must admit some of my vulnerability got lost along the way as it became more of a song and less of a life lesson.
I think if I was truly man enough, I would record the song again in its original form to expose myself fully, and honour that pure honesty that Louise delivered and maybe I would find again, that precious vulnerability I lost along the way.
In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity thank Louise for that life lesson, and also for being the catalyst that lead me to become a real songwriter 🙏
